First it was Frank DeLima. Now it's Tim Mattos.

The 39-year-old Waianae native and special-education teacher at Nänäkuli High and Intermediate School has written a furlough Friday parody song to rival the one DeLima came up with.

While DeLima wrote "Furlough Day" to the tune of "Day-O," Mattos took the music from Bob Marley's "One Cup of Coffee" for his "On Furlough Fridays No More School"Check it out at www.honoluluadvertiser.com/TGIF. Here's one verse:

Mattos and his wife teach at Nänäkuli, and he said the new contract — on which he voted no — will cost the couple more than $25,000 over the next three years.

"They took away the $3,000 bonuses you get for teaching in Nänäkuli, and then you have the 10 percent cuts and that's tough to deal with, especially when you have children," said Mattos, who has two keiki.

Still, Mattos never intended for his parody to gain the following it has. Both 98.5 FM and KCCN have played it, and Mattos said when he busted it out while opening for Augie T. at Kapolei Intermediate, the audience loved it.

"People who were there wanted copies, and then I started getting e-mail requests for the song," Mattos said. "I started sending out copies for a buck and so far I've made more than $250."

It gets better. Polar Studio in Pearl City signed Mattos to do a comedy CD. Another parody is in the works, so is a video.

"The song was just for fun," Mattos said. "Now it could turn into something."
