Coast Guard continues search for missing fisherman

Advertiser Staff

The Coast Guard said it planned to continue searching through the night for Devin Johnson, 25, who is believed to have gone overboard from a commercial fishing boat early Friday morning about 60 miles south of Kona.

Hawaiçi County police said Johnson and his brother were taking turns tending fishing lines late Thursday while the other slept. When the brother woke at 2 a.m. Friday, Devin Johnson was missing, police said.
The Coast Guard sent the cutter Kiska, a rescue helicopter and a C-130 search plane to the search area. Navy rescue personnel aboard a helicopter from Marine Corps Base Hawaii were helping with the search.
Anyone with information about the missing man is asked to contact the Coast Guard’s 24-hour Honolulu Harbor command center at 842-2600 or via VHF marine band radio channel 16.
People may also call the Hawaiçi County police Acting Lt. Myra Iwamoto at 808-326-4646, ext. 281, or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
