Flu cases in Hawaii on the rise
Following a lull in flu activity in Hawaii, cases are on the rise, state health officials said today.
The increase is coming earlier in the flu season than normal, but it was expected due to the flu situation on the Mainland, which is “awash in cases,” Sarah Park, head of the state Department of Health's Disease Outbreak and Control Division, said today.
Normally, Hawaii wouldn’t begin to see this many cases until December, Park said.
In the health department’s weekly flu update, Park said that Hawaii has now been allocated 181,400 doses of H1N1 flu vaccine, with 80,000 doses of that set aside for in-school vaccination clinics.
The in-school clinics begin tomorrow with one at Moanalua Middle School from 9 to 10 a.m. in the cafeteria.
