Isle flags to fly at half-staff to honor victims of massacre
Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona Jr. has ordered the Hawaii state flag be flown at half-staff through sunset Tuesday at all state and county buildings in honor of the 13 men and women who lost their lives at Fort Hood, Texas, Thursday in a mass shooting.
"We must always honor our service men and women, who risk their lives every day to protect the liberty and freedom we have as American citizens," Aiona said in a statement. "This senseless act of violence saddens us all, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victims."
Residents also are encouraged to fly their own state flags at half-staff in honor of all those who lost their lives.
