Offices offer cash, sports gear for candy

Three health professional offices in Honolulu will trade Halloween candy for money or sports equipment. A Downtown Dental Group will pay $1 in cash for every pound of Halloween candy brought to their 1139 Bethel St. office between noon and 2 p.m. today. Waialae Dental Care will also trade $1 per pound of candy from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today at the Kahala Mall Center Stage. Chiropractor Micaire Baxter will trade the candy for footballs, tennis rackets, lacrosse sticks and beach balls tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Global Health Chiropractic, 677 Ala Moana.

IILIMA SCHOOL’S GO GREEN DAY IS NOV. 14

Ilima Intermediate School will hold its annual "Go Green Day" on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the school campus. The event, meant to encourage recycling and conservation efforts, features a HI-5 recycling center, waterless car wash, green demonstrations, professional face painting, food, games and prizes. Students will also participate in a "Trashion Show" sponsored by The Lei Ilima Program and Coalition for a Drug Free Hawaii. Call 689-1250.

2 MEETINGS ON PÜPÜKEA PAUMALÜ PLAN SET

The North Shore Community Land Trust will hold two public meetings on the Draft Pupukea Paumalu Long-Range Resources Management Plan, which is now available for review at the Kahuku and Waialua public libraries, and on the Web at northshoreland.org. The meetings will take place Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. Both meetings will be at the Sunset Beach Elementary School cafeteria.

CRAFT FAIR AND STREET FESTIVAL ON SATURDAY

The Kaimuki Business and Professional Association will hold its third annual Celebrate Kaimuki Kanikapila on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kaimukí Community Park and Waialae Avenue. More than 150 vendors will showcase crafts, gift items and food. This event is free and open to the public. ANOTHER LIBRARY CUTS PASSPORT SERVICE

Laupähoehoe Public & School Library discontinued its passport application acceptance service yesterday to focus on providing core library services to patrons. Another Big Island library, the Kealakekua Public Library, also discontinued its passport service last week. The nearest passport application acceptance facilities to these libraries are: Pepeekeo Post Office, 808-964-3253; and Kealakekua Post Office, 808-322-1656, respectively. An appointment is required to apply for a passport at these post offices.

MARCHING BAND FEST TOMORROW AT STADIUM

Finance Factors and the Pearl City High School Music Learning Center will host the 34th annual Oahu Marching Band Festival tomorrow starting at 6 p.m. at Aloha Stadium. The festival will feature 11 high school bands, including Aiea, Castle, Farrington, Kalani, Kapolei, Leilehua, Mililani, Moanalua, Pearl City, Radford and Roosevelt.
