MARTIAL ARTS

'MAYHEM' FIGHTS TO NO CONTEST IN JAPAN

Hawai'i fan favorite Jason "Mayhem" Miller fought to a no contest on the Dream 9 mixed martial arts card Tuesday in Yokohama, Japan.

Miller faced Brazil's Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza for the Dream organization's middleweight (185 pounds) championship.

Miller landed an illegal kick to Souza's face early in the first round, opening a gash on Souza's forehead. Moments later, the ringside doctor ruled that Jacare could not continue, and the bout was ruled a no contest.

Miller won the Hawai'i-based Kingdom MMA organization's middleweight title last month at the Blaisdell Center Arena. Miller has said he will try to fight in both Japan and Hawai'i.
