Tube Notes: 'The Office,' 'The Oprah Effect'
TONIGHT'S MUST-SEES
"THE OPRAH EFFECT," 7 P.M., CNBC
There are business strategies based on one thing: Get your product onto Oprah Winfrey's talk show.
In an interesting hour, we see tiny businesses -- Carol's Daughter, the five-employee We Take the Cake -- catapulted to success by Winfrey. We also meet people who obsess: One woman wrote the book (literally) on getting on the show; another follows all Winfrey advice and reports it on LivingOprah.com.
"THE OFFICE," 9 P.M., NBC
If you couldn't stay up after the Super Bowl to catch this episode, here's another chance.
It starts wonderfully. After his seminar is ignored, Dwight holds a fire drill -- locking the doors first. Chaos follows.
After that, things slide off a little. A "pirated movie" -- with Jack Black, Cloris Leachman and a micro-moment of Jessica Alba -- is so-so.
Still, the hour does offer a roast of the boss that turns dark and sometimes quite funny.
