ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
'Island Moments Revisited' to debut
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Part 1 of "Emme's Island Moments Revisited" will premiere Thursday at 9 p.m., and repeat Saturday at 4 p.m. on KHON 2.
Emme Tomimbang will have three specials this year to look back at some of her favorite interviews with Islanders.
Tomimbang has been sharing Island stories since 1994, and in this show she looks back at some of the people she's interviewed and offers updates on what they've accomplished since.
Highlights include:
Dean Pitchford, producer of "Footloose" and "Fame," who graduated from Saint Louis School. Tomimbang caught up with Pitchford while he directed the Saint Louis production of "Footloose."
Rell Sunn, "Queen of Makaha," whose passion for life and ocean never diminished even when fighting the cancer that took her life. Tomimbang shows highlights of a 1994 interview with Sunn and talks with actress and singer Tia Carrere, left, about her plans for a movie celebrating Sunn's life while Carrere was on the set of "You May Not Kiss the Bride," filmed in Hawai'i.
Willie K, "Then and Now: From Heavy Metal, Hawaiian to Classical Opera," looks at the many faces of the popular local performer and family man raising two daughters. The musician now has a new role, self-producing, along with organizing a golf tournament to raise money for Maui Memorial Medical Center. Since his original interview with Tomimbang, Willie K, left, met and performed for President Obama during a fundraiser last year, started to dabble in movies (including a small role in "You May Not Kiss the Bride"). In the meantime, his music continues to evolve.
The show will include a musical moment with Willie K and Carrere.
