New York Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado will have arthroscopic surgery today on his right hip, and there's no immediate word on when he might return to the lineup.
The Mets said Delgado has a bone spur and a torn labrum in his hip. Team spokesman Jay Horwitz said no timetable for Delgado's return will be decided until after the operation.
New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez had surgery in early March for a torn labrum — cartilage that lines the hip socket to stabilize and cushion the joint. He missed exactly two months.
Delgado, 36, is hitting .298 with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 26 games.
In other news, reserve infielder Alex Cora was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his right thumb. Ramon Martinez was called up from Triple-A Buffalo to play shortstop in place of Jose Reyes, who missed his fifth straight start with stiffness in his right calf.

2B WEEKS OUT
Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks will miss the rest of the season because of a tear in his left wrist.
Weeks, who had a similar injury to his right wrist in 2006, hurt himself while striking out Sunday in St. Louis. He left Busch Stadium wearing a brace and underwent an MRI exam yesterday in Arizona that revealed the extent of the damage.
Weeks was hitting .272 with nine home runs.

Cardinals: St. Louis hopes center fielder Rick Ankiel and pitcher Chris Carpenter both can rejoin the team tomorrow. Ankiel bruised his right shoulder in a headfirst crash into the wall May 4. Carpenter has been on the 15-day DL since April 15 because of a strained muscle in his left ribcage.
Twins: Minnesota outfielder Delmon Young won't rejoin the team until Friday at the earliest. Young left the team last Friday before the start of a four-game series at the New York Yankees to attend to his ill mother in California and was placed on the family medical emergency list.
Reds: Cincinnati said dizziness prompted first baseman Joey Votto to skip the team's flight home from California and seek precautionary medical testing in San Diego. Votto, who had missed five games with the flu, became lightheaded Sunday, a day after he left a game against the Padres because of mild dizziness.
Red Sox: Kevin Youkilis of Boston was 0 for 2 with a walk last night in his first rehab game with Triple-A Pawtucket. Youkilis, who is hitting .393 with the Red Sox, was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 5, with a strained left oblique.
