Getting involved nationally is essential because it shapes the direction of the nation. But engaging on a community level is a good first step. For instance, one can start an organization like a grassroots campaign or be an active member in a community group. In the overall scheme of things it seems small, but collectively it can make a big difference.

It is also important to get involved in the electoral process. In a democracy, the people have a voice, and we should utilize this right. Not only should we exercise our right to vote, but we should also encourage others to do the same. Civic engagement is all about getting people involved in the political issues that surround us.

Lastly, it is important to be actively involved in the political process. This means contacting officials, protesting, petitioning etc. Ultimately, this political voice is the most influential.

Even though youths are often not directly involved in the electoral process, they can still make their voices heard in the political world. I pledge to learn as much as possible about the issues that affect us and to engage in the process on concerns that I feel are significant.
