It has been a challenging and thought-provoking experience being a member of the Teen Editorial Board. On this board, I have been able to connect with peers with whom I share a similar interest: the interest to know and discuss what is happening in our state. On this board, through joining with peers in challenging and relevant discussions, I have learned the importance of civic engagement.

Civic engagement is important because it keeps us — as members of the public — involved and informed; it keeps us playing an active role in being concerned with the governing body of our state.

This experience has inspired me to invest in my community and strive to make a difference, remembering that one person can make a change, or be the person to make a wave that inspires others to action.

I have learned that it is important to have a say, to have a voice, and more importantly to have that voice heard. The only way to do that is to speak up. As members of this state, it is our responsibility to be asking questions, staying involved, and paying attention to what is happening in this paradise that we call home.
