Servco's Windward Chevrolet dealer was among the 1,100 franchises to learn that General Motors would drop them by late next year, but the move should have little impact on its sales, the dealer says.

David Rolf, executive director of the Hawai'i Auto Dealers Association that represents dealers owning 135 franchises statewide, said he hadn't heard of any other Chevrolet dealers receiving news of their contract being canceled.

Servco Pacific, which owns the Windward Chevrolet dealership, also sells Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru and Suzuki vehicles.

Warranties of GM vehicles will not be affected by the closure.

BOOK, MUSIC FEST CONTINUES TODAY

Aficionados of fine reading and listening turned out in droves for the Hawai'i Book and Music Festival yesterday at Honolulu Hale and the Mission Memorial Auditorium.

The annual event has grown dramatically since it began three years ago and organizers predict this year's festival — which features 190 events and some 600 presenters — will top last year's attendance total of 30,000. It continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

31ST CHARITY WALK RAISES $925,000

The Hawai'i Hotel & Lodging Association's 31st annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, held yesterday on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and the Big Island, drew more than 6,600 participants and raised $925,000 for more than 100 local charities.
