Sisto, Catricala lift Rainbows past Utah Valley, 4-1

Matt Sisto pitched seven shutout innings and was backed with a pair of solo home runs by Vinnie Catricala to help Hawai‘i beat Utah Valley, 4-1, tonight to take a 2-0 lead in the non-conference series at Les Murakami Stadium.
Sisto (5-4) allowed eight hits, while striking out four for the Rainbows (31-22). Connor Little gave up a solo home run in two innings of relief.
Brock Sargent (2-9) was tagged for four runs, six hits and five walks with three strikeouts in four-plus innings for the Wolverines (16-35).
Hawai‘i jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Vinnie Catricala’s two-out, solo home run to left. It was his 11th of the season and 62nd overall for the team.
The Rainbows squanered a golden opportunity in the fourth when they loaded the bases with no outs, but failed to score.
Catricala led off the fifth with a towering homer to left, his second of the game, 12th of the season and 19th in his career, putting him fifth on the school’s all-time career home run list. Kevin Macdonald followed with a single and Kolten Wong walked. Sargent was pulled for Kole Mickolio. Sean Montplaisir struck out, but Christian Johnson’s line single to left-center scored Macdonald, as Wong advanced to third. Matt Roquemore singled up the middle to scored Wong and send Johnson to second. A wild pitch advanced the runners, but Kevin Fujii fouled out to the catcher and Ryan Morford flied out to right to end the inning with UH leading, 4-0.
Little took over for Sisto to start the eighth inning and Cole Anderson spoiled the shutout bid with a one-out, solo home run to left to pull the Wolverines to 4-1.
