Hawai'i snapped a five-game losing streak by knocking off St. Mary's, 10-3, yesterday in a non-conference baseball game at Louis Guiston Field in Moraga, Calif.

Connor Little and Ryan Davis combined on 7 1/3 strong innings for the Rainbows (27-20).

Little (3-0) allowed an unearned run, four hits and a walk in four innings. He did not have to pitch the minimum five innings to get credit for the win because it was determined before the game that it would be staffed. Davis followed with 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

Lenny Linsky struck out two to finish the eighth inning for Davis, but allowed a double and walk to start the ninth and both eventually scored after he gave way to Alex Capaul, who got the last three outs of the game.

"The pitching was good from everybody," UH coach Mike Trapasso said. "That's where it starts when you play well. Connor was very good, but Ryan Davis was really the story because he was outstanding. He came in, threw strikes, kept the ball down and really got us through those middle innings. When you're staffing a game you don't want to extend guys. It's great to have a guy come out there and have 10- to 12-pitch innings."

Little was on a 50-pitch ceiling, Trapasso said. He used 47 to make it through his four innings.

Ryan Morford continued his hot hitting, batting 2 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Greg Garcia was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI.

Kolten Wong's three-run double in the first inning chased St. Mary's starter Taylor Reid (2-6), who lasted just five batters, getting only one of them out. Mark Anderson followed, allowing only one hit and a walk over the next 6 2/3 innings.

The Rainbows did the rest of the damage against Kyle Barraclaugh and Alex Schmarzo, who combined to give up seven runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Hawai'i sent nine batters up in a five-run ninth to seal the game.

Justin Fazio went 3 for 5 for the Gaels (27-24), but the team's leading run-producer, Troy Channing, went 0 for 4.

The Rainbows resume Western Athletic Conference play tomorrow with a four-game series at Fresno State. Tomorrow and Friday, the games will start at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.

Fifth-place Hawai'i (9-10) leads Fresno State (6-10) and Sacramento State (5-9) by 1 1/2 games. The Rainbows wrap up WAC play with this series. They need to finish in sixth or higher to qualify for the conference tournament, May 21 to 24, at Les Murakami Stadium.
