Warriors volleyball swept

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team came up empty in its rematch with No. 1 UC Irvine last night, losing 30-19, 30-24, 32-30 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
UC Irvine improved to 19-3 overall and 14-2 in the MPSF. Hawai'i fell to 6-15 and 3-13.
Carson Clark had 20 kills while hitting .429 and Austin D'Amore added 10 kills for the Anteaters, who hit .379 and out-blocked the Warriors 14-7.
Hawai'i's Brennon Dyer had 11 kills and Sean Carney added 10. The Warriors hit .125 and had one ace and 14 service errors.
UC Irvine also swept the Warriors the previous day.
The Warriors return here before traveling to UCLA for a two-match series beginning April 3.

FOUR RAINBOW WAHINE QUALIFY FOR REGIONALS
Four Rainbow Wahine qualified for NCAA Regionals yesterday on the first day of the Stanford Invitational, an open meet in California.
Seven UH athletes have met regional standards two weeks into the outdoor season.
Multi-event athlete Annett Wichmann earned regional standard in the javelin yesterday, throwing 163 feet, 11 inches to take fourth. It was a personal best and UH record by more than 6 feet.
The Rainbow Wahine dominated high jump, with Amber Kaufman finishing second behind Olympian Sharon Day. Kaufman cleared 5-11.25, while Day went 6-0.5. UH senior Emily Sheppard took third at 5-10, beating the regional standard a second straight week.
Wichmann was fifth at 5-7 and freshman Sarah Saddleton seventh at 5-7.
Sophomore Careena Onosai won the "collegiate" division of the discus with a regional qualifying mark of 155-7, a personal best. Onosai also competed in the collegiate shot put and placed fourth with 40-4.75.
Jamilee Jimenez had a personal best in the long jump (18-5) to take second in the collegiate division. Joy Saleapaga had a personal-best 1:07.49 in the 400-meter hurdles.

BYU-HAWAI'I'S ALVES AN NABC ALL-AMERICAN
Brigham Young-Hawai'i junior Lucas Alves was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America first team.
Alves led the Seasiders to a best-ever 27-2 record this season and to the West Regional final. Earlier, he was named the Daktronics NCAA II Player of the Year and to the Daktronics All-America first team.
Alves, a 6-9 forward from Casa Branca, Brazil, led the Pacific West Conference in scoring at 19.8 points per game. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game and shot 52.7 percent from the field while playing just 27 minutes per game. He also blocked 40 shots and made 25 3-pointers.
Alves was named PacWest Player of the Week three times this season and was named PacWest Player of the Year and first-team All-Conference earlier this week.
