Kevin Macdonald was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to force home the winning run and help Hawai'i rally past No. 18 Coastal Carolina, 5-4, today in the first game of a college baseball doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium.

The second game will start at 7:05 p.m.

With one out, Christian Johnson and Greg Garcia walked against Tommy Winegardner (0-1), who moved to the mound from second base to start the inning. Matt Roquemore singled to right to score Johnson to tie the game at 3 and moved Garcia to third. Vinnie Catricala was intentionally walked to load the bases. Macdonald was hit by Winegardner's first pitch to force home the winning run against the Chanticleers (19-5).

Sam Spangler (4-1) allowed a run in 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Rainbows (14-9).

Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. With one out, Tommy Winegardner walked and an out later, scored on Daniel Bowman's double to left-center. Taylor Motter's single to short moved Bowman to third. Scott Woodward's single to short scored Bowman and moved Motter to second. Rico Noel lined a single off Alexander's leg to load the bases, but Tyler Bortnick grounded out to short to end the inning.

Hawai'i broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the second and cut its defict in half in the process. With two outs, Landon Hernandez doubled to straight away center; center fielder Noel had shaded him heavily toward right. After taking third on a balk, Hernandez scored on Jeffrey Van Doornum's ground single to center to pull UH to 2-1. Ryan Morford's single to right moved Van Doornum to second, but Christian Johnson grounded out to first to end the inning.

The Chanticleers got the run back in the third. Winegardner singled to center with two outs and scored on Iglecias' double to right-center to make it 3-1.

The Rainbows pulled to 3-2 in the fifth. Morford reached on single to third and took second on third baseman Bortnick's throwing error on the play. Johnson followed with an opposite-field single to left-center to pull UH to 3-2. Greg Garcia reached first when he bunted into a force at second before Matt Roquemore fouled out to third. Vinnie Catricala flied out to left.

Hawai'i tied it in the sixth against Coastal Carolina relief pitcher T.J. Swank, who started the inning. Wong singled to center with one out and took third when Hernandez grounded a single down the right-field line. A wild pitch by Swank scored Wong to tie the game at 3 and move Hernandez to second. Van Doornum grounded out to third, as the runner held second. Morford was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Swank was pulled for the left-handed Matt Rein to face the left-handed hitting Johnson, who grounded out to short.

Coastal Carolina regained the lead in the seventh. Noel led off with a single to center, took second on Bortnick's sacrifice. Moore was then replaced by the left-handed Sam Spangler to face the right-handed hitting David Anderson, who flied out to right, advancing Noel to third. Adam Rice then doubled to right to score Noel to put the Chanticleers up 4-3.
