When it comes to eye surgery and results, seeing is believing, but when the surgeon is Dr. Jorge G. Camara, hearing is a close second. The Honolulu ophthalmologist is also a classically trained pianist who rolls a piano into the operating room and tickles the ivories before he operates on your eyes, using music to calm and stabilize his patients.
Camara recently released a CD of music recorded in the operating room — "Live From the Operating Room." He'll be signing copies and performing at a release party at 7 p.m. Saturday at Borders in Ward Centre. A portion of the sales will benefit Aloha Medical Mission, a Honolulu-based nonprofit, volunteer organization that provides free healthcare to underserved people overseas and in Hawai'i; www.aloha medicalmission.org.

AGE MATTERS
A GUIDE TO HEALTHY RUNNING FOR KIDS
Yes, exercise is good for kids — but it should be age-appropriate. In "Young Runners" (Simon & Schuster), sports journalist Marc Bloom starts his guide to healthy running for kids ages 5 to 18 with an anecdote about putting his 9-year-old daughter through speed workouts until midnight.
Bloom has evolved much since then ("I cringe when I think of that period now," he writes), and his book emphasizes running from a place of joy.
