Foundation to honor public school graduates

The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation will be honoring three individuals and KTA Superstores at its award banquet this year.

Honorees are restaurant owner Sam Choy, Zippy's co-founder Charles Higa and University of Hawai'i Associate Athletics Director Marilyn Moniz-Kahoohanohano.

Each year the foundation holds an annual fundraiser called Kulia I Ka Nu'u ("strive for the highest") Banquet and honors three public school graduates and a corporation. These honorees have not only distinguished themselves in their respective fields but have made significant contributions to the community as well.

The foundation is an independent non-profit corporation founded in 1986 to strengthen the quality of public education by creating opportunities for innovative school-level ideas.

The banquet is in May.
