Mayor to proclaim April Food Drive month
City employees are doing their part in the Hawaii Foodbank's annual food drive starting with a proclamation from the mayor.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann will proclaim April Food Drive month in honor of the Hawaii Foodbank's 20th annual collection at an 11 a.m. ceremony tomorrow at Honolulu Hale.
The event also kicks off the city's Stuff the Bus campaign in which the mayor and his cabinet will load a city bus with food donations collected during the city employees' food drive.
In addition, on April 4 bus riders will be encouraged to bring nonperishable food items when riding the bus and place them in a donation bag behind the driver's seat.
As another part of the city's effort the Honolulu Fire Department will be accepting nonperishable food donations from the community at all neighborhood fire stations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout April.
