Preps: Girl who sued doesn't make baseball team
Associated Press
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A freshman who forced a change in the Indiana High School Athletic Association's rules against girls playing baseball has failed to make the team.
Bloomington South High School baseball coach Phil Kluesner says Logan Young had a great attitude, but didn't quite have the skills needed for the team.
An IHSAA rule prohibited girls from trying out for baseball if their school has a softball team on the basis that the sports are comparable. Young's family filed suit in federal court Nov. 21, arguing that that baseball and softball aren't really the same sport, so girls should be able to try out for baseball.
Commissioner Blake Ress says the IHSAA settled because it was unlikely to win in court.
