HIFF adds 'Yamagata Scream' to spring festival lineup

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu International Film Festival added another film to its lineup today.

"Yamagata Scream" is a 2009 Japanese film with English subtitles. The festival, from April 3 through April 9, now has more than 20 acclaimed and award-winning films committed.

"Yamagata Scream" is a highly touted comedy-horror film about a lovelorn schoolteacher and her class of young high school girls who are visiting a rural countryside in search of a shrine rumored to help people find true love. What they don't know is that they are about to be caught in the middle of a battle between an undead samurai and the villagers he is determined to destroy. Stuck in the countryside and with limited cell phone reception, the rage of the undead can make you scream, and laugh. Directed by and starring Naoto Takenaka, who has "Shall We Dance," "Ping Pong" and "Azumi" among his credits.

Tickets go on sale to HIFF members Monday and to the general public on March 27th. Movie ticket prices are $10, $9 for students, seniors, children, and military. HIFF Ohana Members get tickets priced per membership level.

Tickets wil be available at the HIFF Box Office (680 Iwilei Road, Suite 100) starting Monday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

From April 3 through April 9, tickets can be purchased or picked up at the Guest Services Counter inside the Regal Dole Cannery Theatre Lobby one hour prior to the first show until the start of the last show, online at www.hiff.org, by phone at 550-8457(TIKS), or by fax at 536-2707.
