Free Hawaii seminar offers more information on Obama's stimulus plan

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and several local businesses are sponsoring a free seminar March 28 for individuals and businesses seeking more information on President Obama's economic stimulus plan.

The seminar will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Hawai'i National Bank's 4th Floor Conference Room, 45 N. King St. Other sponsors include L&L Drive-Inn, Hawaii National Bank and The Limtiaco Company.

Among the topics that will be discussed are: the $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers, the "Making Work Pay" credit of $400 for individuals and $800 for family, the hybrid-plug in vehicle tax credit of $7,500, deducting the sales tax on a purchase of a new car, the 50 percent deduction on capital investments and the higher education tax credit of up $2,500.

Registration fee is free, although the sponsors are asking participants to consider making a tax deductible donation of $25 or more for the development of a training facility for the Chinatown Community Development Center. For more information, call 533-3181.
