Two UH divers fall short of NCAAs

University of Hawai'i freshmen divers Douglas Cohen and Daniella Nero just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships yesterday at the NCAA Zone E Qualifying in Austin, Texas.
Cohen finished fifth in the men's platform final with a score of 636.20. The top-3 divers earned berths to the nationals.
Arizona State's Michele Benedetti won with 789.95. Earlier in the week, Cohen had finished eighth in the 3-meter springboard and 11th on the 1-meter.
Nero finished 13th in the women's platform final with a score of 394.55. UCLA's Tess Schofield won with 476.90 points.
UH junior Emma Friesen, who won both springboard events earlier, did not compete in the platform. She will defend her 1-meter title at the NCAA Championship, starting Thursday at College Station, Texas.
There are five zone qualifiers. The top 41 women and 35 men advance to nationals.
GOLF
TOURNEY NOW 54 HOLES
The third round of the Hawai'i State Amateur Stroke Play Championship was canceled yesterday due to flooding at Pearl Country Club.
The tournament will be shortened to 54 holes, with the final round scheduled to be played today starting at 11:08 a.m.
'Iolani freshman Lorens Chan, who has a 36-hole total of 7-under 137, will take a two-stroke lead into the final round.

DIXIE SWEEPS BYUH
Dixie State scored six runs in the top of the third inning to rally past Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 7-4, and complete a sweep of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader yesterday at La'ie.
Kelsey Mendenhall batted 3 for 4 for the Red Storm (21-1, 10-0). Lauren Fielding had two hits for the Seasiders (7-15, 3-7), who led 4-1 after two innings.
In the opener, Haley Schumers pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts as Dixie won, 4-1.

The teams are scheduled to play a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at CORP today, starting at noon.
The host Rainbow Wahine next play a Western Athletic Conference series at Louisiana Tech starting Saturday.

The Hawai'i Pacific-Grand Canyon Pacific West Conference doubleheader yesterday was canceled due to flooding at Hans L'Orange Park. No makeup date was announced.
