The owners of Lahaina's Pacific'O and I'O restaurants have opened 'Aina Gourmet Market, a grocery and sundry shop in north Ka'anapali's new Honua Kai Resort and Spa.

The store is based on the "100-mile market" concept — stocked with products from within a 100-mile radius.

"Local products are fresher, often more nutritional, and good for our local economy," said market manager Angel Green. "We stock Maui produce first, preferably from smaller farms and Island-based businesses."

The market offers fresh eggs, organic produce, meats, wines, chocolates, coffee, smoothies, gelato, panini, specialty gifts and sundries. Among the vendors are Ono Farms, Olowalu Farms, Maui Cattle Co., Oils of Aloha, Maui Brewing Co., Surfing Goat Dairy and the market's own O'o Farm.

'Aina Gourmet Market is part of a collection of Maui establishments led by executive chef James McDonald, Louis Coulombe and Stephan Bel-Robert.

The IRS will open the doors of its Honolulu and Hilo assistance centers on March 21 — a Saturday — to help people with tax issues and questions.

The services provided will include preparation of basic tax returns for people who qualify for the earned income tax credit or whose income is less than $42,000.

The IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in Honolulu will be open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day, at 300 Ala Moana.

The Hilo Taxpayer Assistance Center, at 101 Aupuni St., will operate during the same hours.

O'NEILL CONSIDERED AS CITIGROUP DIRECTOR

Former Bank of Hawaii chief executive Michael O'Neill may become a director of Citigroup Inc. as the company looks to revamp its board, Bloomberg News reported.

It said O'Neill, who left Bank of Hawaii in 2004 after boosting the bank's profits, was being considered as a director along with at least one other former bank executive and a financial executive.

VERIZON WIRELESS HAS NEW CALLING PLAN

Verizon Wireless is introducing a new calling plan that allows businesses in Hawai'i and elsewhere to create a calling group of up to 10 numbers employees call most.

The minutes used when placing or receiving calls from anyone in the calling group are considered mobile-to-mobile calls and do not count against the business' minutes.

Businesses can include the landline or wireless numbers of colleagues, clients and vendors who are customers of any cellular service. The new plan becomes available Sunday.

"Business customers can help their bottom line with Friends & Family for Business," said Rob Miller, vice president of marketing.
