'Walk to End Polio' raises money, awareness
Rotary clubs in Hawai'i will hold a benefit walk March 14 to raise money to help stamp out polio.
"Walk to End Polio" is a 2.5-mile walk around Ala Moana Beach Park that will begin at 8 a.m. The deadline to register is Monday.
The state's 44 Rotary clubs have joined the Rotary International to eradicate the crippling disease. In January, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced it would donate $255 million to the Rotary International toward this effort.
The international has matched more than half of a $100 million challenge grant that the Gates Foundation donated in 2007 and is being asked to match another $100 million of the new grant.
Proceeds from the polio walk will go toward this effort.
