The Navy is cleaning up around the Merry Point landing at Pearl Harbor after a spill of about 2,000 gallons of sewage early today.

A 4-inch sewer line broke, spilling sewage into a storm drain and into Pearl Harbor.

The leak was discovered about 12:30 a.m. Crews installed a bypass line to divert sewage around the broken section, and made some repairs to the pipe.

Warning signs were posted, although the affected area is not normally used for swimming, the Navy said.

The state Department of Health was notified and water samples were gathered. Repairs are expected to be completed Wednesday.
