Bethany Hamilton flick shoot starts Aug. 8

Good news from The Actors Ohana, which sent out a newsletter the other day hailing the startup of several film and TV projects around the Islands. "Soul Surfer," the Bethany Hamilton biopic, is scheduled to begin shooting Aug. 8, "Cooler Kings" a Jerry Bruckheimer pilot, a new Nickelodeon TV series (with all casting possibly in Hawai'i) and feature films "The Lychee Thieves," and "One Kine Day" are all expected to soon begin production, as well as "Lost" returning to shoot in late August.
TAO credits a new contract between the Screen Actors Guild and producers for the increased film traffic. Read: No more threat of strikes to halt productions ...
Can't get "Boom Boom Pow" out of our heads ever since it was announced — in maybe too grand of fashion — that the Black Eyed Peas are going to be the featured act at this year's Bayfest Hawaii 2009.
We were left hanging for a week by Bayfest officials as to who would provide the entertainment.
Now that we know BEP is in the house, all we ask is the next time a headliner is announced, promoters take a lesson from "Boom Boom Pow" and get futuristic about the details: Twitter us. Facebook us. If "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is really the worst film of the summer. as some reviewers are saying, then it's really, really bad. Either that, or the same reviewers haven't watched Will Ferrell in "Land of the Lost." Then again, do people read reviews anymore? Does it matter? Jack Black and Michael Cera in "Year One" was ripped by most reviewers, but got a must-see rating from Entertainment Weekly...
Tickets are still available to catch Hoku Zuttermeister at the Waikiki Aquarium Thursday night. It's the second concert in the five-week Ke Kani O Ke Kai Summer Concert Series. The doors open at 7 p.m., and food and beverage service is available. Seating is limited to the first 550 reservations, and tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for juniors.
