Lifeguards urge beachgoers to practice caution as swell rolls in
Advertiser Staff
As a south swell rolls in, city lifeguards are urging beachgoers to practice caution.
“Although this swell is a bit smaller than last week’s swell doesn’t mean people should let their guard down,” Bryan Cheplic, Emergency Services Department Public Information Officer, said in a statement.
“City Ocean Safety personnel will continue to ask for the public’s cooperation in maintaining the high level of safety and care provided to all beachgoers.”
Cheplic said beachgoers should follow these guidelines:
— Always swim at a beach with a lifeguard.
— Consult with a lifeguard regarding ocean conditions before entering the water.
— Heed all warning signs
— Never swim alone.
— If you see someone in distress call for a lifeguard or dial 911.
—Know your limits. If in doubt, don’t go out.
The National Weather Service is forecasting the current south swell to continue through today and be reinforced by a bigger episode on Friday into Saturday.
