Flags to fly at half-staff in honor of Bainum

Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the state flag to fly at half-staff on Friday in honor of City Council member and former state Rep. Duke Bainum, who died on June 9.
Bainum died suddenly late June 9 from complications of an aortic aneurysm. He was 56.
Bainum served in the state House from 1990 to 1994 and the City Council from 1995 to 2003. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Honolulu in 2004 and last year he won election to his second stint on the council, representing the 5th District, which encompasses Kapahulu, Palolo, Manoa and Makiki.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitors may call from noon. Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
