A brushfire that burned an estimated 80 acres on Maui yesterday closed Honoapi'ilani Highway, forcing drivers heading out of west Maui to divert through Kahakuloa, Maui officials said.

County officials were waiting on wind conditions last night and other factors, such as the availability of heavy equipment, before reopening Honoapi'ilani Highway.

Drivers were warned to expect significant delays, even after the highway is reopened.
