Volunteers to join residents in clean-up day at Kuhio Park Terrace

About 400 volunteers — including residents of Kuhio Park Terrace, Kalihi community members and Hawaii Public Housing Authority staff — will conduct a clean-up day Saturday at the Kuhio Park Terrace housing project.

The Institute for Human Services is celebrating its Founder’s Day by volunteering at this event and Kanu Hawaii is joining the effort as a demonstration of how service together builds a greater sense of community.
They will join residents and HPHA staff in picking up trash, cleaning stairways and lobbies, doing repairs and painting, and renewing landscaping in the neighborhood. Employees from Realty Laua, property manager for Kuhio Park Terrace, are organizing the clean-up and providing food service for the volunteers.
HPHA Executive Director Chad Taniguchi said getting residents involved in maintaining a clean, safe environment is the key.
“The government and taxpayers cannot do it all,” Taniguchi said in a statement. “Residents of Kuhio Park Terrace, like residents of any neighborhood, have to take pride in their community, work with the police and housing managers to prevent crime and prosecute vandals, and teach children to respect and care for where they live.”
