A Maui resort yesterday announced a new name and new plans.

Black Diamond Hospitality Investments LLC of Honolulu is renaming the Diamond Wailea Resort & Spa to Hotel Wailea Maui, effective yesterday.

Originally an exclusive club for affluent Japanese visitors looking for a tranquil and private retreat, the hotels' 72 suites are being upgraded. Renovations include complete bath and lighting makeovers, two 32-inch flat screen televisions for the living room and bedroom, a new sofa and original artwork in the 900 square-foot accommodations.

Hotel Wailea Maui, on the slopes of Haleakala, was acquired by Black Diamond Hospitality in May 2008 and is managed by Aqua Hotels & Resorts, an independent Hawai'i hotel company with a growing portfolio.

HAWAIIAN AIR EXTENDS AGREEMENT

Hawaiian Airlines has extended for another five years its exclusive agreement to use Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower engine wash service.

The engine wash system, which reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, is used on Hawaiian's fleet of PW4060, CF6-80A2 and Trent700 engines, the companies announced yesterday at the Paris Air Show. The wash system eliminates 3 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while decreasing engine gas temperature and increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on an aircraft's wing.

"Hawaiian Airlines has benefited from significant cost savings as a result of the EcoPower engine wash service," said Dennis Manibusan, vice president, maintenance and engineering for Hawaiian. "Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower system allows our airline to operate more effectively and efficiently, saving us time and money," he said.
