Mourning, Janet Reno contenders for Miami high school name
Associated Press
MIAMI — Former NBA star Alonzo Mourning is up against an unlikely opponent in his latest matchup — former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.
Officials are trying to decide whether to name a new North Miami public high school after Mourning and his wife, Tracy, or after Reno, who lives in Kendall.
Kevin Burns, who sits on the school's naming committee and suggested the name Janet Reno High School, says his choice is backed by North Miami city leaders. However, the other four committee members all supported naming the school Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School Biscayne Bay Campus.
The Miami-Dade School Board will make a final decision Wednesday.
