Baseball: Charleston switch-pitcher makes all-star game

Associated Press

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston's switch-pitcher Pat Venditte is an all-star.

The 23-year-old RiverDogs closer was selected Monday for the South Atlantic League's All-Star game later this month.

Venditte has 19 saves in 21 opportunities and an earned run average of 0.78. He's made a name for himself with his ambidextrous style of pitching with both his left and right arms, usually in the same game.

Venditte converted all 23 of his save chances his first season of pro ball with the Staten Island Yankees last summer.

The South Atlantic League's all-star game takes place June 23 in Charleston, W.Va., the home of the West Virginia Power.
