South swell brings high surf advisory through tomorrow night

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory has been issued for Leeward O’ahu to the southern shore of the Waianae Coast, Niihau, Windward Kaua’i, Leeward Molokai, Lanai, Leeward Maui, Windward and Leeward Haleakala and the north, east and south shores of the Big Island.

A high surf advisory means that large breaking waves will affect beaches and produce dangerous rip currents and some erosion, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory is the result of “a long period south swell” that will continue to produce surf of five to eight feet along south facing shores of all islands today, according to the weather service. The high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow
