Public service for Tom Gill pending

The family of the late Tom Gill, a former Hawai'i lieutenant governor and congressman, will conduct a private inurnment and hold a public service at a date to be announced later.

Gill died Wednesday in Honolulu at age 87. The Democrat served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1962 to 1964, and was lieutenant governor to Gov. John A. Burns from 1966 to 1970. He ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1970 and 1974.

Gill was also an Army veteran, state legislator and attorney.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; sons, Thomas, Eric, Ivan, Timothy and Gary Gill; a daughter, Andrea Gill; a brother, Lorin T. Gill; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests donations to the ACLU. Arrangements are by Ultimate Cremation Services of Hawai'i.
