Two-time Olympian and Punahou School graduate Brandon Brooks has been named head coach for the UCLA women's water polo team.
The school announced Brooks' hiring yesterday, along with Adam Wright as men's coach. They are replacing Adam Krikorian, new head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team.
Brooks played for the Bruins from 1999 to 2003, helping them to NCAA titles in 1999 and 2000.
"I'm deeply honored and incredibly excited to take the reins of the UCLA women's water polo program," Brooks said in a press release. "I've always been proud to be a Bruin and look forward to continuing UCLA's success. We return a terrific group of veterans and are thrilled about our incoming class of freshmen. It is with great humility that I'm able to take this team forward."
Brooks has been an assistant the past three years for the men's and women's teams. The women just won their fifth consecutive NCAA championship.
Brooks, a four-time All-America goalie, started for Team USA at the 2004 Olympics and was a reserve for the 2008 team, which won the silver medal.
Brooks, who earned a degree in sociology in 2005, will also be on Krikorian's national staff this summer.RECRUITING
