A moped driver was in critical condition yesterday at Maui Memorial Medical Center after a collision with a pickup truck Tuesday night on South Kihei Road, police said.

The crash occurred about 8:45 p.m. when the southbound moped hit the truck in front of it as the vehicle was turning right into a driveway. A 23-year-old Kihei man who was driving the moped was not wearing protective gear, police said.

A 59-year-old woman driving the truck, and her passenger, were not injured.
