MLB: Peavy leaves with flu after just one inning

Associated Press

SAN DIEGO — Padres ace Jake Peavy left tonight's start against Philadelphia after just one inning, the shortest outing of his career. The team said he had a viral upper respiratory infection.

Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner, allowed four runs on three hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly.

His previous shortest start was two innings at Arizona on Aug. 25, 2003, his first full big league season.

Peavy, who has been bothered by tendinitis in his right ankle, was replaced by Josh Geer.

Padres left fielder Scott Hairston left with a strained left biceps after flying out to end the third. He was replaced by Chase Headley.
