Former UH coach 'Mouse' Davis retiring

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State University offensive coordinator Mouse Davis, a veteran coach of more than 50 years, including a stint with Hawaii, is retiring.
Davis, 76, is known for the run-and-shoot offense he developed at Portland State during his first stint with the Vikings in the late 1970s, and for his development of such quarterbacks as June Jones and Neil Lomax.
Davis returned to Portland State in March 2007 after friend Jerry Glanville was named head coach. The two worked together at Hawaii during the 2005-06 season.
Davis also has coached in the NFL, the Canadian Football League, the now-defunct USFL and the Arena Football League.
Glanville says the search for a new offensive coordinator will begin immediately.
