NFL: 49ers place Harris on injured reserve

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers starting cornerback Walt Harris will miss the entire season as he recovers from right knee surgery.
Harris was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, a serious blow for the team three days before training camp opens and heading into Mike Singletary’s first full season as coach.
Harris, a 13-year pro heading into his fourth year with the 49ers, has been a model of consistency in his lengthy career, never missing more than four games in a season. Harris’ veteran presence was expected to be a cornerstone of Singletary’s defense, particularly given the lack of depth behind him.
San Francisco also placed defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois on the non-football illness list.
