MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Justin Timberlake celebrated the opening of his renovated, environmentally friendly golf course in style on the 10th tee — by smacking his drive 291 yards.
The singer and actor smiled Saturday after the tee-off, saying "nobody's happier about this course" than he is.
Timberlake was the first to play a round at his Mirimichi golf course near Memphis, Tenn., after he spent $16 million renovating the course to make it more eco-friendly.
Timberlake drew a crowd of about 50 onlookers after starting an early round of 18 holes at 7:30 a.m.
JOEL'S ILLNESS PUTS KIBOSH ON CONCERT
ALBANY, N.Y. — Billy Joel and Elton John have postponed a second upstate New York concert on their top-grossing tour after Joel fell ill with flu-like symptoms.
The Times Union Center in Albany says in a release the pair have decided to delay today's show. The venue says Joel's doctors advised him not to perform for 72 hours because of his "extreme fatigue."
Promoters said Friday's show at Buffalo's HSBC Arena was postponed after the 60-year-old Joel came down with flulike symptoms.
Both venues are working to reschedule the shows.
The Elton/Joel Face 2 Face tour has been the nation's top-grossing concert tour for the last two months.
DILLINGER'S DERRINGER FETCHES $95,000
DALLAS — A gun once carried by bank robber John Dillinger has brought $95,600 at a Texas auction.
Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas reports the winning bid for the Remington .41-caliber double derringer was more than double the pre-auction estimate. The gun sold Saturday to a Los Angeles area collector.
A statement from the auction house says Dillinger was carrying the small pistol hidden in a sock when he was arrested in Tucson, Ariz., 75 years ago.
Dillinger was killed six months later on July 22, 1934, by federal agents outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago.
He is portrayed by actor Johnny Depp in the recently released movie "Public Enemies."
'POTTER' EDGED OUT BY 3-D GUINEA PIGS
LOS ANGELES — The 3-D "G-Force" was the top movie at the box office this weekend, opening with $32.2 million, according to studio estimates yesterday. The Walt Disney release, with its mixture of live action and computer-generated animation, features voiceover work from Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan and Penelope Cruz as resourceful guinea pigs.
Last week's No. 1 film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," came in a close second with an estimated $30 million. That's a 61 percent drop from its huge opening last weekend of $79.5 million.
Coming in third was another of the week's wide releases, the battle-of-the-sexes romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," which had a $27 million opening.
