Energy-saving measures cutting Iolani Palace's electric bill

A variety of energy-saving practices has helped Iolani Palace cut its electric bill in half over the past year, The Friends of Iolani Palace said today.
Among the measures were replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs in all non-historic room, turning off overhead lights during the day, tinting windows and making sure exterior doors to the palace, palace galleries and the barracks were kept closed.
The palace said it consumed 4,615.2 kilowatts a day in 2008. Today, the palace averages 3,500 kilowatts a day.
