Two courses have been updated in The Advertiser's Hawai'i Golf Guide, published July 12 in the newspaper and now online at http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com.
Scott Ashworth is the PGA director of golf at Kaua'i Lagoons Golf Club, which has opened a "new" 18-hole course to take the place of the Kiele and Mokihana courses while work is being done on the resort. The new layout has 12 holes from the Kiele Course, including the signature 16th.
When work is completed, the resort will have 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus, and a new practice facility and clubhouse location.
The course is running summer specials. One junior (age 7 to 17) is free with each paid adult. Visitors (including Marriott guests) get half off rental clubs and the $25 fee includes two sleeves of balls. Kama'aina can get e-mail specials. For more information, call 808-241-6000.
Ernie Els' new Hoakalei Golf Club has been added to the Golf Guide. The private course is at the end of Keone'ula Boulevard in 'Ewa Beach. Phone number is 294-5056 and Web site is http://www.hoakaleicountryclub.com. Kristopher Kitt is director of golf and head pro.
