Boxing: Gatti’s wife ordered to remain in jail

RIO DE JANEIRO — A Brazilian judge says Arturo Gatti’s wife will remain in jail despite an autopsy report raising doubts about suspicions that she strangled the former boxing champion.
The lawyer for the 23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues, Gatti’s wife, petitioned for her release. Judge Fausto Campos in Recife denied her release request, but said Monday her petition must be examined by a three-judge panel, probably next week.
Rodrigues was jailed shortly after Gatti’s July 11 death in a seaside resort. She was accused of strangling him with her purse straps while he slept.
But an autopsy report raised doubts about that theory. Police say they cannot comment on the case until the investigation is complete and are refusing to say whether she is still a suspect.
