Tube Notes: 'Moonshot,' 'Torchwood'

TONIGHT'S MUST SEES

“MOONSHOT,” 6 AND 10 P.M., HISTORY CHANNEL.

On the anniversary of the moon landing, this movie tells a familiar story in a fresh way. It skillfully blends historical footage with scripted scenes.
Some of this is speculation, but all of it is interesting. “Moonshot” is best when contrasting Buzz Aldrin — with a doctorate from MIT and a complex personality — with strong-and-silent Neil Armstrong.
Aldrin campaigned to be the first man on the moon; Armstrong got the assignment. They were opposite pieces in a historic moment, 40 years ago today.

“TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH,” 3 TO 4:15 P.M.,BBC AMERICA; CONTINUES THROUGH FRIDAY.

In a haunting scene, children suddenly freeze. Eventually, they chant “We are coming.”
Soon, the story entangles the team from the “Torchwood” series, led by Captain Jack, who's incapable of dying. It ranges from secretive British officials to Clem, haunted by his boyhood UFO experience.
This is English science-fiction at its best — smart, strange, exciting and eccentric.
The 'Day One' episode repeats today at 6 and 8:30 p.m.
