Credit union issues warning on fraudulent text messages
Honolulu Federal Credit Union is warning the public to be aware of text messages that are being sent to both its members and individuals who are not members of the credit union in an attempt to gain personal and account information.
The messages notify the recipient that their Honolulu Federal Credit Union debit card has been deactivated and a telephone number is given with the instructions to call to reactivate it. In some instances an e-mail address is provided for the recipient to respond.
The credit union does not contact its members in this manner to request such information, and is instructing everyone not to respond. If you have replied to these requests, contact your financial institution immediately to prevent any unauthorized activities on your accounts.
For more information, call the credit union's Mark Munemitsu at 529-6449 or visit www.honolulufcu.com.
