New Honolulu city clerk wins council vote
Veteran Honolulu Hale employee Bernice Mau’s appointment as city clerk was approved 8-0 by the City Council today.
Mau, 57, replaces Denise DeCosta, who retired at the end of last year.
Mau was among 36 applicants for the post, which heads council support services including oversight of city elections.
She began her career with the city as an assistant council committee aide in 1984. She was deputy city clerk from July through December 2008 and has been acting clerk since January.
