ArtSpree is back at The Contemporary Museum, this year featuring everything from hip-hop performances and synchronized swimming to Shakti dance and aerial acrobatics, as well as improvisational comedy and juggling stilt-walking clowns.
The event has hands-on activities for the entire family, including musical entertainment in the art galleries.
Children can enjoy hands-on fun such as creating mini floral arrangements, learning about and creating gadgets that float and glide, squishing clay into little works of art and helping paint a garden mural on canvas under the supervision of 'Iolani School teacher Cheri Keefer. Face painting is also available by theater artist Hui-Mei Chang, who is experienced in Chinese opera face-painting.
Wally Amos, Mermaids Hawaii, Giinko Marischino, Youth Speaks slam poets, Les Peetz and Rachel Gonzales are among the entertainers.
The 16th annual ArtSpree is free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Makiki Heights museum. Call The Contemporary Museum at 526-1322 or go to www.tcmhi.org for more information.
Special-assistance parking is available in the museum lot by calling 526-1322, ext. 10. Parking for everyone else is free at Punahou School, with shuttles running all day, taking people to and from TCM.
