TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors have re-signed former No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani to a five-year contract extension.
Bargnani averaged career highs of 15.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocked shots and 31.4 minutes in 78 games last season. He topped 20 or more points a career-best 23 times and set an NBA record for a starting center by making multiple 3-pointers in 10 consecutive games.
The deal was announced Wednesday, the first day players could sign contracts. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 7-foot Rome native became the first European-born player selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft when he was taken by the Raptors in 2006.
